But it was only the second video I ever saw (after “Safety Dance”), so my standards were low.

By the way, I would pay SOOOO much money to see a movie version of “The Fancy Spider-Man”.

A Rod Hull look-a-like follows a lady clearly completely out of his league around town. That and the Korgis, “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime” I always listen to together. Not sure why. Both early eighties. Both OK.

First video I was obsessed with was Wax (not the Andrew Gold/Graham Gouldman collaboration who had a hit with “Bridge To Your Heart”, good song and video – check it out, but the American alternative rock band) and the song, “California”. Oh yes. Youtube it. Oh yeah – what a video! I grew up watching Beavis and Butthead and that video will always be special to me and Beavis. Had to stay up late (as mentioned in the lyrics) and watch MTV through the night to try and catch it. That and Ween’s “Freedom of ’76”. Two great songs and two awesome videos from Spike Jonze. Youtube them to check them out.

I too really loved “Black Hole Sun”. I had to watch ‘MTV’s Most Wanted’ with Ray Coakes with my parents as we only had Sky downstairs just to see these class videos. Still listen to Soundgarden. Parents just didn’t get the Alternative American rock scene from 1991 to 1996! Some of my favourite bands came from that era.

Even though the video doesn’t have a lot to it, there was just something about it that I really liked.

REM’s Losing My Religion – there was a lot going on there that I was confused by
Tom Petty’s Don’t Come Around Here No More – just cooool
Tom Petty’s Mary Jane’s Last Dance – creeper!

I spent a good decade feeling ILL at even the mention of the movie, my first time watching it was so traumatic.

First music video I fell in love with: Green Day’s “When I Come Around”. It helped that it was on MTV almost constantly.

I remember sitting there silently with my twin brother. First time I’d seen and heard some hidden angst in me expressed in a music video.

I was only about 5 or 6 years old but i thought he was all kinds of dreamy and the effects of the video were amazing! How I was able to process that at the age i was I am not sure, but i always stopped to watch it when it came on the TV.

It’s PhD, “I Won’t Let You Down,” which I saw on the first day MTV aired, and loved it from the start.

The first video I fell in love with was “Our House” by Madness. The first video I fell in lust with was “Legs” by ZZ Top, with an honourable mention to “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran.

Loved Vanessa’s Downton Abbey question, and the answers. 🙂 My first answer was that I’d be a maid, maybe like Gwen from Season 1. But on further reflection, I’d probably be one of Cora’s boorish American cousins. I’d be crass and shock Violet and flirt with all the British men and then be gone.

As a kid, I listened to my parents’ music — lots of Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. I finally got into “modern” pop music around age 11 or 12, c. 1995. One of the first videos I saw was Alanis Morisette’s “You Outta Know” and it blew my mind. The video itself isn’t that amazing, but just….wow. It was a far cry from the oldies station. I always regretted being too young to be a riot grrrrl. It was one of the first “real” albums I bought, too.

I do remember loving REM videos and always stopping when they were on.
